The University of Minho was founded in 1973 and began its academic activity in 1975/76. Located in two cities, Braga and Guimarães in the North of Portugal, a region known for its young and dynamic population, as well as significant economic activity.
In his 40 years of life, combining a strategic vision of innovation and a careful scientific, pedagogical, administrative and financial management, UMinho developed a status of recognition and affirmation: it has been placed among the 100 best universities in the world under 50 years of age and is the best Portuguese university in the top 400 of the Times Higher Education ranking.
